The usefulness trap
Learning products often start with utility: finish the worksheet, get the answer, move to the next screen. But a child who is confused does not need more output. They need someone to notice the hesitation, change the explanation, and leave them with the next step they can own. A tool can be useful and still make a child want to quit.
What Mary Poppins understood about learning
Mary Poppins did not simply complete tasks for the Banks children. She changed their relationship to the task. She made an ordinary activity feel possible, playful, and worth engaging with. That is the useful kind of magic in tutoring: not replacing the child's effort, but making the effort easier to begin and more rewarding to continue.

The teaching loop we are building for Muse can slow an explanation, ask a smaller question, or return to an earlier idea when a mistake repeats. The point is not empty encouragement. It is giving the child a next step they can still own.
Physical presence is part of the trust
That kind of physical presence is difficult to reproduce in another app window. Muse is being built to sit at the desk, listen to the question, look at the page, and place guidance beside the work. Planned summaries will give parents the big picture without turning every session into supervision.
Building patient machines
We are building Muse to be patient before it is impressive, present before it is productive, and encouraging without being empty praise. The goal is not to make a child dependent on a machine. It is to create the conditions for independent learning: a private tutor that adapts, explains, and knows when to step back.
